This PlayStation VR bundle is incredible value

Forget the Oculus Rifts and HTC Vives of this world: if you’re on a budget and unsure about virtual reality, PlayStation VR is the best way to experience the wonderfully immersive medium without breaking the bank, or having to restructure whole rooms of your house to compensate for motion-tracking cameras.

It’s now even cheaper and, if you’re on the fence, there’s never been a better time to buy than this. For Black Friday, Game has reduced the cost of its PSVR bundle to £179.99 – a saving of £120 .

So, what do you get in the bundle? Everything you need to get going, aside from the PlayStation 4. That means it comes with the PSVR starter pack (headset, camera and copy of VR Worlds) as well as two more games and two months of Now TV. It’s not really clear why you get Now TV, but more streaming TV options are always welcome, I guess – and you can watch your shows on a virtual giant screen from within the headset.

The games are more important though. First up there’s Astro Bot, a PSVR-exclusive platformer that’s averaging 90/100 on Metacritic. “Astro Bot Rescue Mission delivers on the potential of PSVR and is a must-buy for owners of the device,” IGN purrs in its review . Gosh.

You also get Resident Evil 7 , and this is one I can personally vouch for having played it through – some of it in VR, though by no means all, as there’s only so much one person’s nerves can take. Suffice it to say it’s a thoroughly enjoyable horror romp, through playing it with VR is… intense. So intense that Capcom released a limited-edition scented camera to make your house smell like death and decay while playing . What’s wrong with a nice lavender?

Neither of these games uses the PlayStation Move controllers, but plenty of VR experiences are better with them. And if you want to add those to your bundle, Game also lets you get all of the above plus two Move controllers for £229.99 . If you can stretch to this, it’s well worth it.

Sadly, with Harry Redknapp currently in ITV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity’ jungle, we won’t get to see him advertising Game’s Black Friday deals like last year . Maybe they’ll get Sam Allardyce instead, but it just won’t be the same.
